According to Hillary Clinton, Joe Biden’s re-election was a “terrible mistake”. As per Clinton, former President Biden enabled Donald Trump to be re-elected by attempting to run for re-election at the age of 81. Notably, Biden was the 46th President of the United States from 2021 to 2025. Kamala Harris served as the Vice President during his tenure. He was preceded and succeeded by Donald Trump.
Hillary Clinton comments on Joe Biden’s re-election
Hillary Clinton shared her strong opinion on Joe Biden’s re-election in an interview with The New Yorker. Clinton spoke to editor David Remnick at the 92nd Street Y in New York on Monday, June 15. The 78-year-old confessed that former President Biden made a “terrible mistake” by running for re-election. She feels that he unknowingly paved the way for Donald Trump to be elected as President again.
Clinton admitted, “He made a terrible mistake for himself, his legacy, and for the country. It was a terrible miscalculation on the part of President Biden.” The 2016 Democratic presidential nominee explained that Biden did not stick with his initial pledge to “pass the torch to the next generation.” Clinton shared that the Democrats would have surely elected a solid candidate who “would have beaten Donald Trump.”
The former Secretary of State stated, “But once he didn’t move and did not admit that he had said he was going to step aside and then decided not to and held on for as long as he did, we were in a terrible dilemma.”
Notably, Biden ultimately dropped out in July 2024 after his debate with Trump ended on a disastrous note. Furthermore, Clinton also commented on how Vice President Kamala Harris was put in a difficult position after Biden quit. She shared, “I think that was definitely a factor. I think she also found herself really in a difficult position trying to run as the sitting vice president but separate herself from the sitting president. That’s really hard.”
