Donald Trump’s $13 million renovation of the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool has once again sparked controversy. The president’s latest “American Flag Blue” paint job has reportedly already begun peeling, just 12 days after it officially reopened on June 6.
Videos shared on social media on Thursday showed that the new liner at the bottom of the Reflecting Pool appears to be peeling in some spots. Additionally, many have noticed a significant algae bloom, which has led to the discoloration of the water. Netizens have since reacted to the failed paint job with criticism against Trump’s expensive renovation plans.
The video was posted just a day after the Trump administration boasted about getting rid of the algae. “The advanced nanobubbler technology very effectively killed the algae that has plagued every Lincoln Reflecting Pool reopening—most infamously Obama’s reopening—since 1922,” the Interior Department wrote in a June 17 X (formerly Twitter) post.
“The Reflecting Pool water is crystal clear, and our National Park Service team is now vacuuming up the dead algae resting on the bottom of some parts of the Reflecting Pool,” the statement continued. It added, “Just like the destroyed Iranian Navy resting on the bottom of the Persian Gulf.”
Trump has often discussed his renovations for the Reflecting Pool in the past. On June 10, the president stated, “Everybody’s looking at that reflecting pool; they can’t believe it reflects. We used a dark blue, it’s called ‘American Flag blue’” (via PEOPLE).
Meanwhile, Trump has recently announced his grand plans for the Fourth of July celebrations. In a recent Truth Social post, the POTUS stated that he will organize “the most spectacular TRUMP RALLY of them all.”
