Vice President JD Vance’s appearance on ABC’s The View drew 3.3 million viewers. This marks the show’s biggest audience since the day after the 2024 presidential election and its second most-watched broadcast since January 11, 2021.
The View recorded its biggest episode in 18 months after JD Vance appeared as a guest
According to Nielsen Media Research’s Live+Same Day Big Data Plus Panel ratings, The View averaged 2.942 million viewers during the week, marking a 22 percent increase from the previous week, reports The Wrap.
On June 16, Vance made his first appearance on The View to promote his new book Communion: Finding My Way Back to Faith. The 41-year-old, who is the third sitting vice president to appear on the show after Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, faced all six View co-hosts, including Whoopi Goldberg, Sara Haines, Ana Navarro, Sunny Hostin, and former White House staffer Alyssa Farah Griffin. He was questioned closely by the hosts about Epstein files, ICE and the Trump administration’s policies.
Things also got tense at points, especially when Whoopi Goldberg called out the vice president for dodging her question about people of color. Goldberg asked Vance about the treatment of people of color in America, according to Yahoo Entertainment. He initially seemed unsure of the question. To which Goldberg clarified, saying that parts of U.S. history, including slavery, were being removed or downplayed, and that Black Americans who worked toward the American dream were being disrespected.
When he began to respond, saying, “So you say that we’re anti-minority or anti-Black—” Goldberg quickly interrupted, “No, I didn’t say that! I asked—don’t start any stuff with me, man. Don’t get me in trouble.” The correction drew loud cheers from the audience, and Vance admitted he “misinterpreted” the question and said it was “fair.”
However, the interview ended on a positive note, with the show presenting him with a View-branded baby jumper, as Vance and his wife, Usha, are expecting their fourth child.
Vance’s appearance on the show came amid a dispute involving The View, ABC, and the Trump administration, as the FCC reviews the network’s broadcast licenses in connection with an investigation tied to Disney’s DEI policies, reports The Hollywood Reporter.
