Prince William and Prince Harry’s fractured relationship has become one of the defining royal stories of recent years. However, reportedly, it is the emotional toll of the feud that is weighing most heavily on King Charles and Kate Middleton.
An insider quoted by Closer claimed that both the king and the Princess of Wales are united in their desire to see William and Harry rebuild their relationship. The source claimed that the pair remain deeply troubled by the possibility that the brothers could continue drifting apart.
“She and Charles are on the same page, they can’t stand by and just accept that these two may never even speak again,” the insider alleged. “It just feels too unbearably sad.”
Notably, the concern is said to stem from the brothers’ once-close relationship. Before tensions became public, William and Harry were widely viewed as exceptionally close. Having grown up under intense public scrutiny and shared many of life’s most significant moments together, they were often seen as one another’s strongest allies within the royal family. “They used to be so close, they were two peas in a pod,” the source added.
According to the insider, Middleton never expected the fallout to last this long. The source claimed that, like many others, she believed “eventually they’d find their way back to each other.” However, nearly four years have passed with little indication of a meaningful breakthrough.
What’s more, the report claims that Middleton now feels that urgency is needed if there is to be any hope of repairing the relationship. “In her view the longer they wait to deal with this, the worse it’s getting,” said the insider. “At some point there’s just too much water under the bridge.”
