Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s planned return to the United Kingdom has sparked renewed debate about what the couple hopes to achieve as they navigate the next chapter of their post-royal lives. The upcoming trip, which will include their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, has prompted royal commentators to question whether the Sussexes are looking to rebuild connections they left behind when they stepped away from royal duties in 2020.
A royal commentator believes Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are seeking a reset
Tom Bower, the royal biographer, said he understands why Prince Harry and Meghan are returning to the royal institution. Speaking on The Royalist podcast with Tom Sykes, Bower argued that the couple’s latest moves come at a time when they face growing pressure to redefine their public roles outside the monarchy, as reported by The Daily Beast.
According to Bower, Harry and Meghan’s return to the UK suggests they are searching for a fresh start after a series of professional and personal setbacks. “I think you can summarize it in two words: desperation and failure. They’ve run out of ideas, and their finances are basically in jeopardy.”
“And Meghan is someone who is desperate for fame. She’s desperate for recognition. She is desperate for money, of course, and status. And it just seems to her that a visit to the royal family in Britain would restore to her the credibility she once had,” he continued.
The Sussexes are expected to visit Britain in July with their children, Prince Archie, 7, and Princess Lilibet, 5, for events connected to the 2027 Invictus Games. The trip will mark Meghan and the children’s first visit to the UK together in several years. It also comes after Harry publicly said he wanted to repair his relationship with the royal family. Royal biographer, Bower claimed that, “Harry misses his roots, he misses England, and somehow wants to worm his way back into the affections not only of his own family, but of the British people.”
