Donald Trump Calls DC’s Likely Next Mayor a ‘Communist’ For a Reason

President Donald Trump has branded the overwhelming winner of Washington D.C.’s Democratic mayoral primary a “Communist adherent.” The win guarantees she will succeed outgoing Mayor Muriel E. Bowser in January, and Trump is already making his opposition clear.

Donald Trump calls out Janeese Lewis George in Truth Social rant

On Sunday, Donald Trump used Truth Social to attack Janeese Lewis George and warned that her election would damage Washington. The post misrepresented several of her policy positions, though Trump did confirm he would meet with her.

“Washington D.C. is again a Safe and Prestigious Community,” Trump wrote. “Many people, including myself, have worked long and hard to get it there, and we will not let it be destroyed by a Communist adherent who has no intention to, MAKE WASHINGTON GREAT AGAIN!”

The president built his case by listing positions he attributes to Lewis George. He claimed she wants to “empty the prisons,” declared she would transform the city into a sanctuary for undocumented immigrants, and accused her of opposing crime crackdowns while supporting cashless bail expansion. Several of these assertions do not match her public record. Lewis George has never advocated emptying prisons. She did voice support for diverting police funding before joining the D.C. Council, but she has since walked back that stance.

What Janeese Lewis George has done is openly criticise Donald Trump’s decision to send immigration agents into D.C. neighbourhoods. On the campaign trail, she repeatedly promised to resist federal encroachment on local affairs.

Lewis George responded to the president’s backlash. Through her campaign, she acknowledged inaccuracies in Trump’s claims but extended an open hand. “Most” of what he wrote is “incorrect,” she stated, adding that she remains “willing to work with anyone, including the Administration, to improve the lives of D.C. residents.”

“I will stand up to anyone who puts our city or its residents in harm’s way,” she said. “Making D.C. safe and more affordable for our residents is my immediate focus (via The Washington Post).”
