Kate Middleton and Prince William were allegedly surprised when they first learned about Prince Harry’s relationship with Meghan Markle. This three-word reaction to the news has resurfaced again online. The Duke of Sussex and Markle began dating in 2016, and got engaged only a year later.

In his 2023 memoir, Spare, Prince Harry detailed Kate Middleton and Prince William’s reaction when he told them that he was dating someone new, per Express.co.uk. Harry wrote that the Prince and Princess of Wales figured out “something was going on” when he met them for dinner.
Harry wrote that the couple reacted with curiosity when he “casually mentioned that there was… a new woman in my life.” Then came the three-word response, “Who is she?” from the Prince and Princess of Wales. The younger prince further wrote that he wanted to “keep it a secret” before delving into details.
In Spare, Harry revealed that he told them: “She’s an actress. ‘Oh?’ She’s American. ‘Oh.’ On a show called Suits.” He further wrote that the couple seemed to recognise the actress he was speaking of, adding that they were “regular – nay, religious – viewers” of Suits.
“All this time I’d thought Willy and Kate might not welcome Meg into the family, but now I had to worry about them hounding her for an autograph,” Prince Harry added. He tied the knot with Meghan Markle in May 2018 at St. George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle. Later that year, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex reportedly split from Prince William and Kate Middleton’s royal court.
The couple welcomed their first child, Prince Archie, in 2019. The next year, they stepped down from their position as senior royals and moved to California. Their relationship with the royal family has since been fraught. However, they will reportedly visit the UK next month along with their children.
