Donald Trump recently posted a congratulatory message to China after failing to push through his birthright citizenship proposal at the Supreme Court. At the beginning of his second term, Trump signed an executive order to abolish birthright citizenship. However, the SCOTUS did not rule in his favor.
Why Xi Jinping appeared in Donald Trump’s birthright citizenship response
Donald Trump recently took to the Truth Social platform and posted a message for China after SCOTUS ruled against his birthright citizenship proposal.
Trump signed an order at the start of his second presidential term, asserting that he would remove the right to birthright citizenship. However, the ruling in the Supreme Court was 6-3 in favor of keeping the right. Referring to this, Trump mentioned China in his post and wrote, “I would like to congratulate President Xi, and the Great Country of China, on their massive Birthright Citizenship WIN!”
However, this left many on the internet confused as to why Trump chose to congratulate China after his own defeat in the Supreme Court. According to a report by TOI, Trump may have done so because, as outlined in Peter Schweizer’s book The Invisible Coup, there is a current conservative belief that China has taken advantage of the right to birthright citizenship in the United States the most.
Following the ruling, Trump made another post on Truth Social condemning SCOTUS’ decision. He posted, “The Supreme Court upheld Birthright Citizenship, which is too bad for our Country, but we can easily make it up in Congress through Legislation, with the support of the President, that has now been determined during this process.” He added that Congress should direct all its efforts into ending the right and labeled it “expensive and unfair.” Trump further stated that Congress will have his “complete and total support!”
