Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s highly anticipated wedding at Madison Square Garden on July 3 may benefit the homeless. Roughly 200 two-person outreach teams will be deployed across the city to warn unhoused residents about the ‘Code Red’ heat emergency and direct them to shelters or cooling centers.
NYC crews increase homeless outreach and security outside MSG ahead of the Taylor and Travis wedding
According to a NYC official speaking to TMZ, the Department of Homeless Services will deploy a “significant force” of outreach workers around Madison Square Garden and Penn Station from July 2 through July 4.
The report clarified that the increased presence is not connected to the wedding festivities, but to a dangerous heat wave expected to bring temperatures into the 90s and up to 100 degrees. Officials say the Penn Station corridor, one of the city’s largest homeless hubs, is a particular focus of concern between noon and 8 p.m., when the heat is expected to be most intense and the area around Madison Square Garden most active.
About 200 two-person outreach teams will be dispatched across the city, with particular focus on the Madison Square Garden area. They are responsible for warning unhoused individuals about the city’s Code Red heat emergency. If people refuse help, outreach workers cannot force them to move and will continue providing alternatives, including access to Penn Station for cooling.
According to another report by TMZ, Swift and Kelce, who announced their engagement in August 2025, are reportedly planning a large wedding event at MSG. Sources with direct knowledge said that a permit has been filed with New York City to close streets surrounding MSG from July 2 through July 4 in connection with the planned event. As per US Magazine, City sources said the permit office is working with the NYPD on managing potential traffic and pedestrian flow near the venue.
