Prince William Names His Mount Rushmore of English Footballers on New Heights Podcast

Prince William surprised fans with his appearance on Travis Kelce and Jason Kelce’s podcast. He named some of the most iconic English footballers of all time on the podcast.

David Beckham is named on the list, along with six other big names from the world of English football

The Prince of Wales, during his latest appearance on the New Heights podcast, named the Mount Rushmore of English footballers. He shared seven big names from football, including David Beckham.

While talking about Beckham, he said, “So, the best of all time English player is what we’re saying. So, for that, um, David Beckham’s got to be in there. Yes. Love that. Probably the best crosser of the ball I’ve ever seen and probably ever will see. Um, he’s up there.”

Other names on the list include Gary Lineker, Harry Kane, Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard, Wayne Rooney, and Bobby Charlton.

He placed Lineker and Kane together, said, “Gary Lineker would be in there somewhere with his uh goals, but then Harry Kane’s just about to overtake him. So, you know, those two are very tied together. Harry Kane could end up being one of the greatest English strikers we’ve ever seen.”

While talking about Lampard and Rooney, he said, “That generation I was really hopeful for and absolutely love them.”

He recalled Rooney’s play, sharing what he loved about his game.  “I always remember him fighting through contact and continually going hard,” he said.

William shared how the selection was of different generations, while Jason called it an outstanding list. His Mount Rushmore of English footballers reflected his interest over the years, as he mentioned generations of footballers from World Cup-winning Charlton and current captain Kane. During the podcast, William shared his confidence in England’s World Cup team, which is currently at the FIFA World Cup 2026.
