The singer shared an health update on Instagram over the weekends. He posted a series of photos from his concerts where he was smiling and dancing onstage. He thanked his fans for encouraging him on the day when he fell ill during his performance in Minnesota.
Richie captioned the post with “Thank you for every message, every kind word, and for all your love. “I’m doing well, and I’m grateful for all of you.” Lionel Richie also added, “Pittsburgh and Detroit were an absolute joy. The energy, the dancing, the faces in the crowd…we made real memories together.” He ended with, “See you in Toronto…let’s Party all night long!”
The update arrived a week after Richie cancelled his scheduled concerts in Chicago and Columbus, Ohio. Richie suffered from dizziness during the opening night of his tour at Minnesota’s Grand Casino Arena, after which the doctor advised him to take rest before returning to the stage. Richie performed for nearly an hour before he paused during his hit “Dancing on the Ceiling.” He took a seat on a platform, he told the audience he was feeling lightheaded.
Fans waited for 40 minutes when organizers announced that the concert had been canceled. The St. Paul Fire Department confirmed on June 24 that someone was taken to a local hospital, though it did not give any details. Richie is expected to continue his tour soon after recovering.
