Donald Trump said he remains Iran’s top target amid renewed tensions. He made the remarks while flying home aboard Air Force One. Speaking to reporters after departing the NATO summit in Turkey, Trump addressed questions about his safety as the United States and Iran exchanged fresh military actions.
Donald Trump talks to reporter amid Air Force One change
When asked whether he was worried about an Iranian attack on the presidential aircraft, Donald Trump said threats against him are constant. He then told a reporter, “I’m No. 1 on their list, before you,” before adding, “If I go, you go.” He followed the exchange with a joke, suggesting that “perhaps some of you want to change professions.”
The conversation came as Washington intensified its military campaign against Iran. Earlier in the day, Trump told reporters he would “probably” move ahead with military action after three oil tankers were struck in the Strait of Hormuz. Hours later, he declared, “We’re going to hit them hard tonight,” before U.S. forces carried out fresh strikes (via The Hill).
U.S. Central Command said the mission was designed to reduce Iran’s capacity to disrupt maritime trade in the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s busiest shipping routes. Military officials also stated that the action was meant to respond to what they called a series of recent attacks targeting commercial vessels and civilian mariners traveling through the area, signaling that such incidents would carry consequences.
Tehran pushed back with a warning of its own. Ebrahim Rezaei, spokesperson for the Iranian Parliament’s national security and foreign policy committee, posted on X that Gulf nations backing Trump “should watch over their oil and gas wells.”
He also declared that Iran would recognize “no red lines” when it comes to protecting its national security. His remarks came shortly after Trump said the ceasefire created under last month’s memorandum of understanding was effectively “over,” a development that coincided with oil prices climbing.
