Fans questioned the decision because Spears rode that way while the vehicle moved through traffic.
Spears later used Instagram to push back against the reaction. She wrote that people saw only “two seconds of insanity” and added, “Nothing is what it seems.” She also joked that she might need to come out of the roof “quite a bit more,” making it clear she did not view the moment the same way critics did.
Spears shared the statement on July 11, three days after the freeway photos surfaced. The SUV exited the freeway after a brief moment and later stopped at a gas station. A source told the Daily Mail, “Britney just went through the sunroof for a quick moment. She wanted to see what the traffic was about up ahead because the cars came to a stop.” The source also claimed she used to do something similar as a child and did not intend to do anything harmful.
