Savannah Guthrie has reportedly made her position clear regarding the future of the “Today” show. The reports suggest that NBC is focusing on the current lineup to host the show rather than bringing Hoda Kotb back.
Insiders suggest Hoda Kotb is not Savannah’s preferred replacement on Today
Savannah Guthrie is currently taking some time off from her “Today” show, after her mother, Nancy Guthrie, reportedly went missing in January. Kotb is reportedly not the obvious choice to take Savannah’s anchor chair in her absence.
According to reports by Rob Shuter, Substack, a source said, “Savannah has quietly made it known she wants a deeper bench. Hoda left on her own terms, and everyone respects that. But the show isn’t looking backward. Savannah wants viewers to become just as comfortable with Sheinelle, Laura, and other anchors alongside Craig.”
“Hoda chose to leave, and the show has to move forward. There’s enormous respect for everything she accomplished, but nobody is trying to recreate the past. The focus now is building what’s next,” another source added.
Kotb has spent 26 years at NBC and has been anchoring the “Today” show from 2018 to 2025. Her exit is “the end of an era,” as per one of the insiders. Kotb announced her departure in 2025, ending her long run on the morning show, while her network remains focused on the future.
According to the source, Savannah has reportedly made it clear that Kotb will not replace her. “Savannah wants viewers focused on the future, not Hoda. She had an extraordinary connection with the audience, but this is about building the next generation of Today,” the source added. Savannah Guthrie has been co-anchoring Today since 2012. She will be back at the desk after her brief absence. Neither Guthrie nor NBC has officially commented on the reports.
