Sen. Mitch McConnell’s office provided a new update, along with a second photo, following his hospitalization earlier this summer. The update confirmed that McConnell would miss Kentucky’s annual Fancy Farm Picnic on August 1. It also shared information about his continued physical therapy and rehabilitation.

On July 27, the 84-year-old Kentucky Republican’s office released a statement by him stating, “I’m still working hard to get back to my full schedule of work in the Senate and in Kentucky, keeping up with intense physical therapy per my doctors’ orders. Unfortunately, that means I won’t be able to make it to Fancy Farm, Kentucky this Saturday.”
The update follows McConnell’s July 12 post, in which he shared a hospital photo and provided an update on his health. The image showed him sitting up in bed with a newspaper while his wife, Elaine Chao, sat by his side.
Through the update, McConnell said his doctors confirmed he avoided any broken bones, a concussion, heart attack, stroke, tumors, or hemorrhages. He said he briefly lost consciousness and received hospital care for several weeks, including treatment for mild pneumonia. McConnell said he has followed medical advice, undergone testing, and remains focused on recovery.
Officials found McConnell “unconscious” at his Washington, D.C., home on June 14. After a medical team took him to the hospital, his spokesperson, David Popp, said the senator was “receiving excellent care.” On June 22, Popp shared that McConnell was recovering while staying engaged with work, Punchbowl News reported.
McConnell, whose current term is expected to conclude in January 2027, has faced several health concerns in recent years, as per ABC7News. These include a March 2023 fall resulting in a concussion and broken ribs. He also froze mid-sentence during a later news conference.
