A special USA passport featuring Donald Trump’s photo will now be available at events nationwide. The State Department confirmed the expansion on Thursday, citing overwhelming public demand for the commemorative document.

The document, branded the “Patriot Passport,” features a photograph of Trump leaning over the Resolute Desk on the inside cover, with his signature printed beneath. The department first announced the design in the spring as part of America’s 250th anniversary celebrations, promising “customized artwork and enhanced imagery.” Officials later changed the image from the original mock-up before production began in early July.
The department is now releasing an additional 250,000 copies of the Donald Trump passport. “In response to overwhelming demand, the Department of State is making an additional 250,000 of the special commemorative passports available to the public,” the agency stated. “Americans all across the country will now have the opportunity to apply for one of these additional special passports, known as the ‘Patriot Passport.’”
No one receives this version automatically. Applicants who want the commemorative design must secure an in-person appointment at a “250th Anniversary commemorative passport application event.” The department has scheduled these events for August and September at agencies around the USA. Those who apply in person at the Washington, DC, passport office can also obtain it through the standard process.
After all, a State Department spokesperson reportedly said the public response has overwhelmed official channels. The spokesperson claimed staff “have been flooded – by phone, on social media, and in-person at events like the Great American State Fair – by inquiries and requests to apply for the Patriot Passport.” The official added that more than 30,000 Americans called the passport call centre after July 4 seeking the commemorative version (via CNN).
However, Americans who prefer the existing passport design can bypass the commemorative version entirely. The department allows them to apply online, send applications by mail, visit US embassies or consulates abroad, or use acceptance facilities such as libraries and post offices. In Washington, DC, applicants can specifically request a large passport book, which uses the standard design without the Trump photo.
