Ferran Torres has finally explained the story behind the viral hat that sparked headlines around the world. The Spain World Cup hero insisted his “Make Spain Great Again” cap celebrated his country’s victory and had nothing to do with politics.
The accessory quickly became one of the biggest talking points from Spain’s World Cup celebrations. Even Donald Trump weighed in after seeing the now-viral images.

Torres addressed the buzz during an interview with CNN’s Kaitlan Collins. The Barcelona forward dismissed any political meaning behind the red cap.
“It was a funny moment,” Torres said. “It was not about politics because honestly, I don’t know about politics.”
He added that the hat simply reflected Spain’s historic triumph. “It was just to be able to see Spain on the top, winning the World Cup. It was just to have fun with my friends, with my family and nothing about politics,” he explained.
The images spread rapidly after Spain’s victory parade in Madrid. Torres appeared shirtless aboard the open-top bus while proudly wearing the bright red cap. Fans packed the streets as the squad celebrated its World Cup 2026 victory over Lionel Messi’s Argentina.
Torres also revealed he still can’t get enough of his championship-winning goal. During an appearance on NBC’s Today show, he admitted he had watched the decisive strike around “a thousand times.”
His hat even caught Donald Trump’s attention. Speaking to reporters days after the final, Trump praised the Spanish star.
“He is a great player,” Trump said. “He was wearing essentially a ‘Make America Great Again’ cap, so it was a nice tribute. And I think he meant that very nicely, we appreciate it.”
The White House also joined the conversation. Officials joked that “Everyone wants in on the [MAGA] movement” after videos from the Spain victory parade circulated online.
Away from the celebrations, Torres continues making headlines for another reason. The former Manchester City forward reportedly sits at the center of transfer speculation this summer. Reports have linked him with a possible move from Barcelona to Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain.
For now, though, Torres seems happy focusing on Spain’s biggest football achievement rather than the debate surrounding one unforgettable hat.
