Prince William and their children were left waiting for Kate Middleton because she stayed back to chat with Olympic legend Sir Chris Hoy by the side of the road. The Waleses brought their three children to the 2026 Commonwealth Games for the first time on Saturday, August 1. As the rest of her family patiently waited, Middleton was engrossed in an engaging conversation with Hoy, a habit her family has teased her about in the past.
Kate Middleton keeps family waiting to have a chat with Chris Hoy
In a video shared by Hello! magazine, Prince William and their children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, quickly made their way into the waiting car, while Kate Middleton stayed behind to chat with Sir Chris Hoy. The in-video caption stated, “The Princess of Wales is never in a rush to stop chatting.”
The Princess of Wales has confessed in the past that she is often engrossed in long conversations with people at royal events. However, as per Marie Claire, there was a reason behind Middleton and Hoy’s interaction.
For the unversed, Hoy revealed in October 2024 that he had been diagnosed with terminal stage four prostate cancer. Middleton, meanwhile, announced earlier that year that she had been undergoing preventive chemotherapy following a cancer diagnosis. She is now in recovery while gradually returning to public duties.
Given their shared experiences with cancer, it is believed that the two connected over their health journeys. However, the low-quality video makes it impossible to decipher what they were discussing.
Previously, Middleton discussed her love for deep conversations in the 2016 documentary Our Queen at Ninety. She admitted that her family members often poke fun at her due to this. She said: “There’s a real art to walkabouts, everybody teases me in the family that I spend far too long chatting. I still have to learn a little bit more, and to pick up a few more tips, I suppose.”
Fans lavished praise over the Princess of Wales in the comments section. One fan commented: “Her humanity and kindness makes her the best Royal really… such a caring person.” A second fan quipped: “Royals are just like us! Dad and kids have left while mom is doing the 10th goodbye and still chatting inside.”
