Princess Charlotte felt the Scottish chill at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow on Saturday, and the event’s mascot noticed.
The 11-year-old sat with her parents, the Prince and Princess of Wales, and her brothers, Prince George and Prince Louis. Onlookers said she appeared “cold in her black-and-white polka-dot dress.”
Finnie, the unicorn mascot for the Games, then appeared to mimic the young royal’s shivers. Prince William intervened and offered the mascot a fist bump. Finnie went on to blow the Princess of Wales a kiss before moving over to chat with two gold medalists.
The temperature in Glasgow sat around 17 degrees Celsius on Saturday, a noticeable drop from the 25 degrees at her home in Windsor. Her lightweight ruffled dress was not an ideal choice for the conditions.
Princess Charlotte also stood out from her family in the stands. Prince William and Princes George and Louis all wore trousers and shirts to stave off the Scottish chill, while the Princess of Wales layered a blazer over a long skirt to keep warm. Charlotte dressed notably more summery than the rest of them.
Her outfit did coordinate with her mother’s in one respect. Both royals opted for nautical color schemes. That appears to be a pattern for the young royal. In 2022, when the Games were held in Birmingham, a then-7-year-old Charlotte wore a naval-inspired blue-and-white striped dress to the event.
Her looks for casual outings like the Commonwealth Games tend to skew more modern than her appearances at events such as Trooping the Colour, where she wears traditional royal attire. Her own style came through when she greeted her mother after the Three Peaks Challenge, swapping the pretty dresses for modern jeans and blue-and-orange Adidas Gazelle trainers.
