Piers Morgan has come to Ariana Grande‘s defense. The Celebrity Apprentice alum has asked fans to back off from the singer amid ongoing scrutiny and speculation surrounding Grande’s appearance and break from the spotlight.
Piers Morgan says Ariana Grande should be given the space she needs
Morgan took to Instagram to share a photo with Grande, along with a lengthy message addressing the situation. The 61-year-old TV personality wrote, “I’ve no idea what’s going on with @arianagrande, but I do know, after spending a random evening with her in a Beverly Hills restaurant a few years ago, that she’s a genuinely great person.”
He praised Grande as an intelligent, funny, and talented actress and musician. He further acknowledged that her level of fame can be difficult to navigate and isolating at times. Morgan added, “So, I urge all the trolls currently making her life a misery with this constant chuntering about her appearance to back off and give her the space she needs to sort herself out.”
Following the release of her eighth studio album, Petal, on July 31, fans and critics commented on Grande’s health and appearance. Amid growing concern over her health, the singer announced that she would be stepping away from the spotlight.
A representative for the singer told People on August 2 that she “will be taking a step back from visibility.” Adding, “She looks forward to finishing the tour and ending it on a high note, both healthily and happily, and then taking a much-deserved break from public-facing work and appearances, which has led to endless, ongoing public scrutiny.”
The representative continued, saying that the tour, which started in Oakland, California, on June 6 and will conclude on September 1, had been a beautiful experience for Grande. The singer also confirmed that her decision wasn’t reactive but something she had planned for a long time during her August 3 show in Chicago. Grande has stepped away from the West End revival of Sunday in the Park with George. She was set to appear with Jonathan Bailey.
