Towle’s family confirmed her death through a heartfelt message shared on her Instagram account. “We will always love you so much, Sydney. I am so proud of how hard you fought. I love you,” the family wrote before identifying her as “an endless ray of sunshine. A daughter, sister, and friend to so many.”
Her brother, Austin Towle, also paid tribute on TikTok after her passing. “Rest in Peace to the best sister ever,” he wrote. “Sydney fought so hard and was always so positive and spread happiness wherever she went. Thank you all.”
Sydney documented her battle with cholangiocarcinoma, a rare bile duct cancer, after receiving the diagnosis at just 23 years old. She underwent chemotherapy, major liver surgery, and later prepared for a clinical trial involving tumor-infiltrating lymphocyte (TIL) therapy.
Despite the difficult treatments, she consistently chose hope over fear. “People always ask why I’m so positive,” she explained in a TikTok video. “Why would I not envision the best-case scenario? The alternative is to just be sad.”
She also admitted that reading comments predicting her prognosis often became emotionally exhausting. Still, she refused to let strangers dictate her outlook. “Ultimately, it’s my life,” she said. “If I believe that things will work out and be good, that’s my choice.”
Earlier this year, Sydney also described the emotional toll of cancer treatment during an interview with PEOPLE. “Watching my friends go out to dinners… was really tough,” she said, adding that chemotherapy made her feel like “my life was on pause while everyone else’s kept moving.”
Just one day before her death, Austin revealed that his sister had entered hospice care surrounded by loved ones. He later urged followers to remain respectful, reminding critics that comments about Sydney’s appearance or condition were “completely inappropriate and unnecessary.”
