Tory Lanez and his wife are no longer headed for divorce. A Los Angeles judge dismissed the case over a lack of progress.
A filing that landed more than two years ago has quietly gone nowhere, and a judge finally called it. The rapper behind bars stays legally married for now.
The divorce filing involving Tory Lanez and Raina Chassagne was dismissed
A judge in Los Angeles dismissed the divorce case, according to court documents obtained by TMZ. The judge pointed to a lack of movement in the case since its filing, noting nothing had brought it closer to a final judgment.
Raina Chassagne filed in June 2024 after roughly a year of marriage. She cited irreconcilable differences as her reason for the split. She also asked for legal and physical custody of their son, Kai.
That request tracked with the circumstances. The musician was serving a 10-year sentence for shooting Megan Thee Stallion, and he remains behind bars today.
Los Angeles Superior Court Judge David Herriford handed down that sentence in August 2023. Lanez received 10 years without the possibility of parole after a felony assault conviction. A jury found him guilty of three felonies in December 2022: assault with a semi-automatic firearm, having a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle, and discharging a firearm with gross negligence.
The shooting happened in July 2020. Megan testified that Lanez fired at the back of her feet and shouted for her to dance as she walked away from an SUV the two had been riding in, after they left a pool party at Kylie Jenner‘s Hollywood Hills home.
She needed surgery to remove bullet fragments. Herriford said at sentencing that he found it “difficult to reconcile” the charitable person and good father many described with the man who fired the gun.
Megan skipped the hearing but submitted a written statement, saying, “For once, the defendant must be forced to face the full consequences of his heinous actions and face justice.”
However, Tory Lanez and Raina Chassagne have kept ties since the filing. She has taken Kai to visit him in prison. Last year, she also marked Father’s Day with throwback photos of him and their son.
TMZ reached out to Lanez’s representatives for comment but did not receive a response.
