Former FLOTUS Jill Biden admitted that her stepson Hunter’s drug addiction was extremely difficult for her.
The 75-year-old spoke candidly on Kelly Ripa’s podcast. She reflected on the family’s long and difficult journey through Hunter’s addiction and recovery.

Speaking on “Let’s Talk Off Camera with Kelly Ripa”, Jill Biden did not hold back on details involving Hunter Biden’s drug addiction. She confessed that coping with her stepson’s damning addiction was “really hard.” She also opened up about how addiction is a disease that affects many people around the addict. In some part, it also made her believe that it’s all her fault.
Speaking on Let’s Talk Off Camera with Kelly Ripa, Jill Biden did not hold back while discussing Hunter Biden’s drug addiction. She said coping with her stepson’s addiction was “really hard.” She also explained that addiction is a disease that affects many people beyond the person struggling with it. At one point, she even found herself believing that it was somehow her fault.
The View From the East Wing author discussed a range of topics. They were about Donald Trump’s White House renovation plans to whether she believes America will eventually have a female president.
Continuing on the subject of Hunter’s addiction, she said, “Addiction affects so many people, and it was really hard, I think, for me personally, to understand addiction, to understand it was an illness, because I kept feeling like, ‘My God, we gave him everything.'”
Jill went on to describe how she blamed herself, repeatedly asking questions such as, “What did I do wrong? How could I have done this better?” She also recalled the period when Hunter went through one rehab program after another but was “not getting answers.”
However, Jill also praised her son for persevering through recovery. She said, “But Hunter has overcome his addiction, if that’s the right word. Thank God.” She also praised Hunter’s podcast. She says it represents a new chapter in his life where he uses his experiences to help other people struggling with addiction and their families.
“He turned his life around, but it wasn’t easy, and it was years and years,” Jill said before adding that Hunter had remarried and had a young son named Beau. She also noted that Hunter has previously credited his father, Joe Biden, with standing by him during his darkest moments.
