Jesy Nelson shared an emotional parenting milestone as her twin daughters prepared for another major medical procedure. The former Little Mix star admitted she felt both hopeful and terrified ahead of surgery that would finally remove the tubes covering their tiny faces.
The update came after months of documenting her daughters’ difficult battle with a rare genetic condition.

Nelson revealed that surgeons would remove Ocean Jade and Story Monroe’s nasogastric (NG) tubes the following day. The singer shared the update through Instagram Stories as she reflected on the emotional milestone.
“Today is the last day of my baby girls having there ng tubes on their faces,” she wrote. Although she admitted feeling “terrified” about the operation, she also said she couldn’t wait to “finally see their faces again and see their little dimples that are always hidden under these plasters,” according to People.
The heartfelt message also highlighted how everyday moments had become unexpectedly precious. Nelson admitted she had forgotten what it felt like to cuddle her daughters without worrying about dislodging their tubes.
“It really is the littlest things we take for granted as parents,” she added, according to the outlet.
Ocean and Story received a diagnosis of Type 1 spinal muscular atrophy earlier this year. The rare genetic disease progressively weakens muscles and often causes serious breathing complications. According to the Cleveland Clinic, Type 1 accounts for about 60 percent of SMA cases. It usually appears during the first six months of life.
Nelson first shared the devastating diagnosis in January. At the time, she tearfully recalled doctors warning that her daughters would likely never walk or regain full neck strength. “The best thing we can do right now is to get them treatment and then just hope for the best,” she said in an Instagram video.
The diagnosis also placed enormous strain on Nelson’s relationship with ex-fiancé Zion Foster. Speaking to the Daily Mail earlier this year, she explained they ended their engagement after experiencing overwhelming trauma together. Despite the split, Nelson said they remained close friends and committed co-parents because “our girls are our main priority and our main focus.”
Last month, the singer also celebrated a major victory after campaigning for universal SMA newborn screening across the U.K.
