The Weeknd Just Reversed Course on His Retirement Plans

The Weeknd has seemingly changed his mind about retirement. A year after discussing the possibility of stepping away from music, the singer told fans during a recent Stockholm concert that he will never “disappear.”

The Weeknd announced during a Stockholm concert he will never retire

The Weeknd is back and how! Just a year after the singer said that he was hanging up his boots, he reveals that he is, in fact, going to stay with his fans “forever,” E! News reports. “I’ll never disappear. I love this too much to ever disappear,” he said. The comments were made during his Aug. 8 concert in Stockholm, Sweden, as part of his After Hours Til Dawn Tour.

In footage shared on X, the singer says, “I tested retirement a little bit, and I don’t like the way it feels. Imma be here forever with you.” Speculation about The Weeknd’s future intensified after his voice gave out during a performance in California in front of an 80,000-strong audience.

The hitmaker explained at that time, “Part of me actually was thinking, ‘You lost your voice because it’s done; you said what you had to say. Don’t overstay at the party—you can end it now and live a happy life,’” adding, “When is the right time to leave, if not at your peak?”

In an interview with Variety in 2025, he shocked his fans by laying out his retirement plans. He explained at that time, “It’s a headspace I’ve gotta get into that I just don’t have any more desire for. It becomes this rat race: more accolades, more success, more shows, more albums, more awards and more No. 1s. It never ends until you end it.”

However, as it stands, The Weeknd is here to stay and delight fans as he does best.

The Weeknd, born Abel Tesfaye, rose from releasing anonymous mixtapes in 2011. He went on to become one of the world’s biggest pop and R&B stars, with multiple Grammy Awards.
