Melissa Rycroft has confessed to drunk driving nearly a year after she was arrested.
The 43-year-old former “Dancing With the Stars” champion managed to avoid jail time by striking a deal with law enforcement.
Melissa Rycroft avoids 280 days in jail with 20-month probation deal
According to Us, Rycroft pleaded guilty to driving while intoxicated, and a judge signed off on the plea deal on August 10, 2026. Court documents show that she was sentenced to 20 months of probation instead of 280 days in jail. She was also ordered to pay a $2,000 fine.
The probation terms also require Rycroft to complete 36 hours of community service within 120 days. She must complete a DWI education program and use a camera-equipped ignition interlock device.
Reports reveal that Rycroft was arrested in 2025 in Texas. Her blood alcohol concentration at that time was reported to be .26 per cent, more than three times higher than the permissible limit in her state.
Charged with a Class A misdemeanor for operating a vehicle with an alcohol concentration of 0.15 or higher, Rycroft was initially expecting serious jail time. The new deal, which places her on probation with court supervision, is the alternative that she chose.
However, Rycroft briefly took to Instagram to express how disoriented she felt with the circumstances. She wrote in a comment, “Life really sucks right now and I’m struggling, but I’m trying to march forward.”
When news broke about her arrest, fans were enthusiastic with their response. One person strongly related to her situation, writing, “I made the same mistake over 2 years ago because of a perfect storm of bad life events. There’s no excuse, but it happened.”
Another wrote, “Don’t ever forget that you are beautiful, loved and blessed. But most of all, you are human. Things happen. Life happens. Be grateful that it wasn’t worse and move forward with grace.”
Rycroft concluded her Instagram comment with, “Thank you for the sweet words in what seems like a world of negativity.”
Melissa Rycroft is a former Bachelor finalist who later won Dancing With the Stars: All-Stars and built a successful career as a television host and entertainment personality.
