Rosie O’Donnell Has Donald Trump to Thank for Unexpected Career Revival

Rosie O’Donnell has given Donald Trump some unexpected credit for her recent return to the spotlight in her career. During an appearance on Amy Poehler’s “Good Hang” podcast that was released on Aug. 11, the 64-year-old comedian joked that her long-running feud with Trump has helped make her famous again.

O’Donnell told Poehler on the podcast, “I feel like recently I’m re-famous.” She added, “That’s what I feel. I told my kids, well kids, hold on ’cause mommy’s re-famous.” She continued, “I don’t know how it happened. I think it’s Mango Mussolini.”

She then explained why she thinks Trump is partly responsible. “I think it’s him who did it. He didn’t know. If he knew how much he was helping my career and my life, he would shut up about me because, you know, he’s a horrible creature,” O’Donnell said.

However, the White House did not stay quiet about her comments. Instead, it responded by sharing a collection of O’Donnell’s photos and calling her “obsessed.”

Meanwhile, the feud between O’Donnell and Trump goes back nearly 20 years. It started in 2006 when O’Donnell criticized Trump on “The View” over his handling of a Miss USA controversy. Since then, the two have continued to publicly criticize each other.

In addition, O’Donnell moved to Ireland in January 2025. She made the move shortly before Trump’s second presidential inauguration. At the time, she explained why she left the U.S. “I can’t live under that level of cruelty and disregard for human life,” she said.

Trump later called O’Donnell a “threat to humanity.” He also threatened to revoke her citizenship. He wrote on Truth Social in July 2024, “Because of the fact that Rosie O’Donnell is not in the best interests of our Great Country, I am giving serious consideration to taking away her Citizenship.” Trump also wrote, “She is a Threat to Humanity, and should remain in the wonderful Country of Ireland, if they want her. GOD BLESS AMERICA!”

Still, O’Donnell’s career is moving forward. She is set to return to late-night television as a guest host on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” on Aug. 17. However, she does not appear interested in taking on a permanent late-night role. Instead, she said a return to daytime television “would be interesting.”

She is also open to returning to “The View” as a guest during the show’s upcoming 30th season.
