Ricky Gervais Branded ‘Tone Deaf’ After Lucy Davis’ Cancer News

Ricky Gervais‘s former co-star shared news about her health, and he responded in her comments. What went up on his own account for the rest of the evening was promotional. Followers had things to say about that.

Ricky Gervais faces fan backlash after promoting his YouTube channel following Lucy Davis’ cancer news

Ricky Gervais is facing criticism over a post that followers labelled “tone deaf,” which went up after Lucy Davis disclosed that her cancer cannot be cured.

Lucy, 53, confirmed to fans yesterday that her breast cancer is terminal. Audiences know her as Dawn Tinsley from The Office.

Gervais showed support by leaving a love heart emoji under her original video, and Lucy replied, “xxx.”

About four hours later, he wrote on X, “I do live broadcasts every Sunday on my YouTube channel. They’re mostly s***. Please subscribe anyway.” He also continued promoting his Netflix programme, Alley Cats, and retweeting fan reviews.

Disgruntled followers hit back, and the Ricky Gervais backlash grew.

“Bit tone deaf. Former co-worker on one of the most successful pieces of work you’ve been involved in, revealed she is terminally ill, and you’re posting this stuff all evening,” one penned.

Another added: “Holy s*** Rick. I knew you were out of touch and a narcissist but you post this s*** after the news about Lucy?”

Davis said she received the diagnosis 18 months ago and that chemo is now too late.

“A year and a half ago I was diagnosed with Stage 4 Breast Cancer, which has metastasized to my bones,” she wrote. “The cancer is incurable, and too late for chemo.”

She also urged people not to ignore small changes and said she “doesn’t know how long she has left.”

His wife, Jane Fallon, has also spoken openly about her own breast cancer diagnosis earlier this year.

WAS THIS TONE DEAF, OR IS THAT AN UNFAIR READ?
