Jen Affleck nearly stepped away from The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives: Orange County. The reality star said filming became difficult for her mental health. She ultimately chose to share her experience with viewers.
Jen Affleck’s mental health struggles made filming the Mormon Wives spinoff completely unbearable.
Affleck admitted she almost did not join the Orange County spinoff. She said her mental health struggles made filming extremely difficult. At one point, she considered stepping away from the show.
“I almost wasn’t even part of the OC show just because it got so bad,” Affleck told US Weekly. She recalled thinking she needed to take a step back. However, she eventually felt sharing her experience was important.
Affleck previously stepped away during The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives Season 2. She said leaving then allowed her to focus on her mental health. This time, she wanted viewers to understand the difficulties she faced.
The reality star also discussed postpartum and prenatal depression. She hoped her story could help others experiencing similar struggles. Affleck said sharing those difficult moments made her feel vulnerable.
“I hope that anyone who’s gone through any form of depression watching the show can relate,” she said. Affleck wanted viewers to feel seen through her experience. She also believed awareness could make sharing worthwhile.
Her struggles became especially difficult during her fourth pregnancy. Affleck and husband Zac Affleck announced they were expecting another baby. She said this pregnancy had been harder than her previous experiences.
“Definitely seeing more of the light at the end of the tunnel,” Affleck said. She credited feeling better after dealing with severe sickness and bed rest. She also said pregnancy had affected her differently since becoming a mother.
Affleck explained that asking for help had previously been difficult. She said mothers often prioritize their children over themselves. However, receiving support became a major turning point for her.
“I think asking for support has been the biggest game changer,” she said. Affleck believed that support gave her strength to show up for others. She hoped her story could help people feel less alone.
Despite the challenges, Affleck remained hopeful about the future. She said she had overcome difficult periods before. Her experience on the spinoff ultimately became another opportunity to share her story.
