Judge Sends Lindsay Clancy Jury Home Early After Unexpected Trial Twist

The jury in Lindsay Clancy’s murder trial was unexpectedly sent home early on Wednesday, August 19, as her defense appeared to be nearing the end of its case. Judge William Sullivan excused all jurors after an “unforeseen circumstance” came up in court. However, he did not reveal what had happened.

The Lindsay Clancy jury was sent home early while the reason remained unclear

As reported by The Sun, the jury had returned from its regular lunch break shortly after 2:30 p.m. when Sullivan told them they could leave for the day. “This is not something we saw coming,” he said, adding that the court simply had to deal with the situation.

It remains unclear whether the early dismissal was connected to a legal matter or something more routine, such as an illness involving a juror, attorney or court staff member. The jury has also been dismissed early on other occasions during the trial.

Clancy has pleaded not guilty to three murder charges. The charges are linked to the deaths of her children, Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and Callan, 8 months old. She has not denied killing her children. However, she says she was not criminally responsible at the time.

Her defense claims she was suffering from undiagnosed postpartum psychosis when the killings happened at the family’s Duxbury, Massachusetts, home on January 24, 2023.

The prosecution finished presenting its case Monday. The defense has since called several witnesses, including Clancy’s mother, sister and psychologist Dr. Paul Zeizel. Zeizel testified Wednesday that he had visited Clancy around 60 times since the killings. He said she continues to think about her children every day and remains under one-to-one monitoring because of concerns about suicide.

He also discussed Clancy’s account of hearing a male voice telling her to kill her children and herself. Zeizel rejected the suggestion that he had coached her into making that claim.

Defense attorney Kevin Reddington told reporters that he could finish presenting his case as soon as Thursday. Testimony is expected to resume at 9 a.m.
