Lindsay Clancy Judge Abruptly Dismisses Jury for Second Day in a Row

Jurors in the murder trial of Lindsay Clancy were let off early on two occasions.

The latest dismissal came on Aug 20, just one day after Judge William Sullivan dismissed the jurors for “unforeseen circumstances.” This left observers speculating on what the court was dealing with behind the scenes.

According to E News, Sullivan informed jurors that the court would again end early on August 20. “It’s going to be a short day, but also gear up for a longer day tomorrow. If you’re going to hold it against anybody, hold it against me,” the judge told jurors.

NewsNation correspondent Brian Entin reported on X about the judge’s explanation around the early dismissals. According to Entin, it was revealed that court officials have some things to work out.” He also posted, “Something is going on behind the scenes.”

Clancy, 36, is charged with the murders of her three children — Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and Callan, 8 months. The murder took place at the family’s Duxbury, Massachusetts, home in January 2023. She has pleaded not guilty.

Prosecutors have argued that she had intentionally planned the kills. However, the defense has claimed that he was suffering from postpartum psychosis and severe mental illness at the time.

Clancy’s mother, Paula Musgrove, had earlier testified that her daughter had spoken about having thoughts of harming her children in the weeks before their deaths. Lindsay’s former husband, Patrick Clancy had a slightly different take. Though he believed that his ex-wife was struggling mentally, she never intended to act on those impulses.

Despite the unexpected interruptions, Sullivan told jurors that the case remains on schedule. Additionally, suggested proceedings could be longer in the coming days. Closing arguments are expected next week as the tense trial heads to its conclusion.
