Princess Diana’s Brother Aims to Upstage Prince Harry With This Move — Source

A fresh chapter in Princess Diana’s legacy is taking shape as her brother prepares to put his memories into print. Charles Spencer plans to publish a personal memoir just ahead of the 30th anniversary of Diana’s death, while Prince Harry reportedly develops his own project honoring his mother.

Charles Spencer reportedly wants to beat Prince Harry with book about Princess Diana

Charles Spencer will release Swan Song: Diana My Sister on September 22, according to RadarOnline. The book will explore Diana’s childhood, their family upbringing and her rise from a young woman within the Spencer family to one of the most recognizable figures on the planet. The timing has fueled speculation about a race to tell Diana’s story first.

A source told the outlet that Harry’s planned documentary could generate major worldwide attention when the anniversary arrives next year. Spencer, 62, therefore wants readers to hear his perspective before Harry presents Diana through the eyes of her son, the source claimed. The insider described the timing as significant and effectively characterized Spencer’s move as getting “to the punch” first.

Spencer has offered a different explanation for the memoir. He said mounting interview requests surrounding the approaching anniversary pushed him to record his memories himself rather than repeatedly encounter accounts he considers “untruths.” He wants the book to present Diana “from her brother’s perspective” and said he intends to speak about her positively, much as he did during her 1997 funeral eulogy.

That family connection gives Spencer a viewpoint Harry cannot duplicate. The Earl knew Diana as a sister before royal life, intense media attention and international fame transformed her existence. Harry, meanwhile, experienced her primarily as his mother. A source told RadarOnline that the two projects could therefore offer distinctly different portraits of the same woman.

Spencer also carries the memory of his promise at Diana’s funeral to support William and Harry. His forthcoming book, published by Penguin Random House UK, will revisit that family history while presenting what he calls his own recollections. Publishing director Daniel Bunyard described Spencer as a “loving brother,” “memoirist” and “historian” whose different roles come together in the book.
