Bret Michaels tried to get back to doing what he loves, but his return to the stage did not last long. The Poison frontman performed his comeback show in Georgia on Friday after weeks of health problems. Now, Michaels has offered another update as the rest of his 2026 schedule falls away. Despite the setback, he is already thinking about eventually getting back onstage.

In an Aug. 23 update on his official website, Michaels thanked fans, friends and fellow musicians for their support. He said he believed he could continue performing despite what he called a recent “health domino effect.”
However, the Aug. 21 comeback show at The Bowl at Sugar Hill proved more demanding than expected. Michaels said he had not fully factored in the Atlanta heat, a coast-to-coast flight and the energy he poured into his first show back.
Those factors affected his blood sugar and blood pressure while he was also dealing with new medication changes. Michaels said he has since worked closely with his doctors and physical therapists as they adjust the medication, including his insulin.
“If I could, I would be back out there tomorrow,” he wrote.
The latest Bret Michaels health update came one day after his team announced that doctors and paramedics evaluated him immediately after the Georgia performance. His doctors determined that he needed more rest and recovery, pulling him off the road for the time being.
With the Bret Michaels tour canceled for the rest of 2026, his remaining shows, including the Mountain Music Festival in Tennessee, will not go ahead. Michaels later said he was especially upset to miss the festival and vowed to return in 2027 or 2028.
The setback follows a difficult summer for the “Something to Believe In” singer. In July, Michaels underwent emergency surgery after a kidney stone failed to pass despite days of severe pain. A later medical update explained that a ureteral stent and his Type 1 diabetes complicated his recovery and made touring unsafe.
For now, Bret Michaels’ canceled concerts are giving him the recovery time doctors say he needs. Still, the Poison rocker made clear that his desire to perform has not gone anywhere.
