Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s return to the UK could bring a significant change for King Charles, according to a former royal butler. The Sussexes have relocated to Britain with Prince Archie, 7, and Princess Lilibet, 5, potentially giving Charles a greater opportunity to spend time with and become more involved in his grandchildren’s lives.

Former royal butler Grant Harrold believes King Charles will be delighted to have Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet living closer to him again. Harrold worked for Charles for six years while he was still the Prince of Wales. Although he left the royal household in 2011, his time there gave him an opportunity to observe Charles both privately and publicly.
Speaking to the Daily Express on behalf of Press Box PR, Harrold said the King would likely be particularly happy to have his grandchildren back in Britain. “Like any grandparent, the King will be very excited to have Archie and Lilibet close again,” Harrold said.
Charles has missed a significant part of their childhood due to the distance between Britain and the United States. “He hasn’t had a chance to really see them grow up, so he will be very happy to play a larger role in their lives.”
According to Harrold, Charles would not have wanted to remain an absent grandparent and would likely welcome the opportunity to spend more time with Prince Harry’s children now that they are living in the UK. “I imagine it’s been very hard for him to know how much he’s missed out on. He would never have wanted to be an absent grandparent.”
Harrold also believes Charles would want to take a more active role in his grandchildren’s upbringing. “He’s a very caring man, and his family means a lot to him. All things aside, he would want to play an active role in his grandchildren’s lives.”
