Donald Trump has turned several heads after he referred to controversial rapper Kanye West as “somebody” during a recent interview. While speaking to reporters about his association with the far-right nationalist political commentator Nick Fuentes, who has come under fire for his recent interview with Tucker Carlson, Trump recounted an incident involving West but hesitated to mention him by name, instead choosing to describe him as “somebody.”
Donald Trump labels Kanye West as somebody
On Sunday night, the 47th President of the US engaged in a quick interview with reporters at Palm Beach International Airport about the controversy that had ensued following Tucker Carlson’s discussion with Nick Fuentes.
While narrating a 2022 interaction with Fuentes, Donald Trump stated that the meeting occurred courtesy of Kanye West, who brought the contentious activist along with him for dinner at Mar-a-Lago.
Nevertheless, Trump awkwardly labeled the “Runaway” singer as “somebody” before finally name-dropping him. “I didn’t know he was coming, and he was with, as you know, somebody. Kanye. Kanye asked if he could have dinner, and he brought Nick,” he said, as per TMZ.
“I didn’t know Nick at the time… He came along with a few other people, and he brought a few people with him. Meeting people, talking to people — like for somebody like Tucker, that’s what they do. You know, people are controversial. Some are; some aren’t. I’m not controversial, so I like it that way,” Trump added.
Donald Trump also defended Carlson’s interview with Fuentes, stating, “We’ve had some great interviews with Tucker Carlson, but you can’t tell him who to interview,” Trump told reporters. “I mean, if he wants to interview Nick Fuentes — I don’t know much about him, but if he wants to do it, get the word out, let him. You know, people have to decide. Ultimately, people have to decide.”
Notably, Tucker Carlson’s decision to sit with Nick Fuentes in October 2025 has spawned much controversy, igniting a heated debate among conservatives. During their now-infamous meet-up, the duo talked about several topics, including Israel, Republicans, as well as antisemitism.
