Selling Sunset Star Mary Bonnet Reveals ‘Iron Clad’ Prenup With Husband Romain After Ex ‘Took Everything’

Selling Sunset star Mary Bonnet has ensured she is financially secure if things go awry in her marriage to Romain Bonnet. She does not want a repeat of what happened to her in her last marriage. According to Mary, she had to file for bankruptcy because of her ex-husband. And because of that, Mary put an “ironclad” prenup in place with Romain so history doesn’t repeat itself.

Mary Bonnet knows that “divorces can get brutal”

The group was skeptical at first of Mary and Romain’s relationship. The two had a bit of an age difference, with Mary being a little over a decade older. On top of that, she was the more financially successful one in the relationship. She discussed it on Jason Tartick’s podcast, Trading $ecrets.

However, they’ve proved the haters wrong and have been happily married since. And it probably doesn’t hurt that Mary’s also been focusing on bettering herself and even stopped drinking. That definitely helps in maintaining a healthy relationship.

Still, even though they are happy now, Mary knows that things can quickly go south. She explained on the Trading Secrets podcast how she has protected herself with a prenup. Mary noted that in her last marriage her ex “ran up a bunch of credit” in her name, so she ended up having to file for bankruptcy.

So, in order to prevent that from happening again, she had Romain sign an “ironclad” prenup. And since their marriage in 2019, they’ve continued to make “very fair” postnuptial amendments. Such as when they bought their home together, which unfortunately was burglarized.

Mary stated, “Basically, it states that any money that I put into the house comes back to me first if we sell it. Then he gets an amount that we both decided was fair when we were in love and a good place.”

She added, “Separations and divorces can get brutal, and people turn into people that they weren’t before fighting for money. You want to do what’s fair when you’re in love, when you have the wits about you, to not just try to destroy the person’s life.”

Selling Sunset is streaming on Netflix.
