Dwayne Johnson and Brendan Fraser will reunite after twenty years for Variety’s Actors on Actors Season 23. The unique and interesting format pairs two actors together to discuss their projects, craft, acting process, and what it means to be an artist.
Notably, Johnson and Fraser last worked together on 2001’s The Mummy Returns. This was the first film that the WWE legend starred in.

Variety has paired Dwayne Johnson with long-time friend Brendan Fraser for the Actors on Actors Season 23 lineup. Season 23 will premiere on December 5, with Variety unveiling one actor-pairing each day for 13 consecutive days.
Variety’s co-editor-in-chief Ramin Setoodeh shared, “We can’t wait for fans of this Emmy-winning series to savor every minute of these conversations on CNN and Variety.”
Fraser and Johnson’s friendship goes back a long way. Previously, Johnson revealed on the New Heights podcast, “The very first movie I ever did was a movie called The Mummy Returns. Brendan Fraser was one of the biggest stars in the world, as he is today.”
The Rock revealed how he was “so excited to be cast in the film, [in] a small part called the Scorpion King.” Johnson explained how Fraser made him feel so special and welcomed despite not having any formal acting experience before his role in The Mummy Returns.
Johnson shared, “Brendan Fraser, by the way, I always want to make mention of this. He was one of the biggest stars in the world. That was his franchise. I am coming in, I have never acted before, I’m excited. He could have easily said, ‘I don’t know if I want this wrestler.'”
The Moana star confessed wholeheartedly that Fraser “embraced me. I love that man for that, and he helped kick off my career.”
Fraser also spoke about their friendship, saying that he was stoked to watch Johnson headline The Smashing Machine. He remarked, “Dwayne, he’s a really great guy, and it’s gonna be exciting to watch him emerge from this. I predict you’ll be seeing a lot more of him on these red carpets in the days to come.” (via PEOPLE)
