News anchor Tony Dokoupil has been promoted as the new lead for CBS Evening News, but his marriage with Katy Tur is allegedly being tested. The 44-year-old journalist married Tur, who is also an author and broadcast journalist, in 2017 and they have been supportive and open about their relationship since then. However, rumors are swirling that the political divide between them is growing, as Dokoupil reportedly had to shift his views to the right to land his new position, while his wife is the lead anchor for Katy Tur Reports on MS NOW.
Tony Dokoupil’s marriage to Katy Tur tested after landing CBS Evening News chair
Katy Tur is allegedly “not loving” her husband Tony Dokoupil’s on-air shift to the conservative side, according to several sources speaking with entertainment reporter Rob Shuter on his Naughty But Nice Substack.
“People are saying Tony’s moved to the right to land that chair,” one source said, “and Katy is not loving the optics.”
Another source referenced Tur’s long career with NBC News, saying “Katy is as liberal as they come. She built her whole career on it. So this new ‘centrist-to-right’ vibe Tony giving off? It’s throwing her.”
For clarity, Shuter said that the couple is “not fighting on-air” and “not breaking up,” but insiders say that the ideological friction between them is allegedly real and widening.
“This isn’t about policy. It’s about identity,” a different source explained. “Katy’s wondering who he’s trying to please — CBS or himself.”
As reported earlier, several insiders said that it was “not shocking” that Dokoupil received the promotion to CBS Evening News by Bari Weiss, who was appointed the new editor-in-chief for CBS News in October, given their shared pro-Israel views. In 2024 Weiss, in a series of articles on The Free Press, had also supported him after he had a controversial interview with author Ta-Nehisi Coates.
