When we last saw Kimora Lee Simmons on television, she was a mother of three. Since then, she’s doubled her household, including an adopted son named Gary. During a recent appearance on the Not Skinny But Not Fat podcast, Kimora opened up about the adoption, and according to her, it wasn’t really much of a decision. It was a calling.

Kimora shares two kids with her ex-husband, Russell Simmons, in addition to one with her ex-boyfriend, Djimon Hounsou. She later married a guy named Tim Leissner, who fathered her fourth biological child.
On her new show, Kimora: Back in the Fab Lane, Kimora introduced the world to the rest of her family as well. She has a “bonus kid” named Jayden, who has lived with her for years, in addition to an adopted son from Jamaica named Gary.
When talking about adoption, Kimora made it clear that it wasn’t much of a choice that she made. She said that it felt more like being chosen to take on the responsibility.
“I think that for people who adopt children, you know that it’s not really you who’s doing the picking. It’s kind of like them that’s picking you. It’s like divine timing,” Kimora said.
“It’s about you trying to help someone else, bringing another person, being into your family and opening up your family, and sharing, and that person becomes part of your family,” she continued. “It’s such a journey, and I don’t know if I was ever ready for it, and I absolutely love it.”
The mother of six went on to gush about her adopted son, calling him the “sweetest” kid in the bunch. She said she feels like she “lucked out” being able to welcome him into her family.
