Nick Reiner Spoke Just Three Words in Court

Nick Reiner was literally a man of few words in court on Wednesday. The son of Rob and Michele Reiner is on trial for allegedly murdering his parents on Sunday. The screenwriter of movies like Being Charlie was arrested in connection to their deaths hours after the Princess Bride director and his wife were found stabbed to death in their home.

On Wednesday, Nick was in court wearing what looked like a suicide prevention vest or smock. He waived his right to a speedy arraignment, barely speaking throughout the proceedings.

We saw a completely different Nick from the one those attending Conan O’Brien’s Christmas party on Saturday allegedly witnessed. That’s when some of those present claim that Nick and his father were arguing loudly.

In court, Judge Theresa McGonigle asked Nick if he understood his right to a speedy trial. His response was “Yes, your honor.” That was all we would hear from him the rest of his time in court. His lawyer, Alan Jackson, did most of the talking for him, saying outside the courthouse that what happened is “a devastating tragedy.” Alan urged people not to jump to conclusions or rush to judgment. He called this case a “very, very complex and serious issue.”

Nick was due to be arraigned on Tuesday, but hadn’t been medically cleared to attend court, according to Alan. A 2016 interview that he and Rob had together is making huge headlines. In the video, he talks about getting crazy while adding, “You don’t want to set me off.”

He has openly shared his issues with substance abuse in the past. His late parents reportedly didn’t know how to deal with his problem.

Nick is facing first-degree murder charges, which, if convicted, could come with either a life sentence or the death penalty.
