Jennifer Garner has always had a very close relationship with her and Ben Affleck‘s kids, Violet Anne Affleck, Fin Affleck, and Samuel Affleck. Since they all have entered their teens recently, Garner’s entire parenting plan has faced a significant shift and twist, and that too, before she could figure things out.
This is a very relatable change faced by all parents as soon as their kids enter the teenage years. Parents have to learn how to deal with these new ‘individuals’ unexpectedly. The actress has recently spoken in detail about this shift in parenting.
Jennifer Garner ‘shifted’ her parenting style for teens to ‘let them grow up’
When it comes to raising teens, Jennifer Garner has a very different set of rules from her rules for raising young children. After all, now that her kids are between 13 and 20, things have changed a lot. She also opened up about how one of the most surprising things about raising teenagers is that “they’re just so cool!”
This changes everything because these kids now want to be treated equally and have more space to make their own decisions in life. This is exactly what Garner observed with her kids. According to her conversation published in Marie Claire, she explained, “Parenting now has shifted. It’s more about parenting with a button on my mouth…You have to let them grow up and make their own choices. You don’t get to control it.”
Although this transition is unbelievably hard on parents, the “Peppermint” star still believes that her children are doing their best to navigate the world as they grow up and take the essential steps towards adulthood. Garner added, “I’m so proud of how they walk through the world, and proud of them for trying hard.”
