Derek and Hayley Hough welcomed a daughter into the world on December 29th. Everley, who many call a “miracle baby,”is the first child for the dance couple who were married in 2023.
The two former Dancing with the Stars performers have been through a lot since tying the knot. Hayley suffered a miscarriage in 2024, a year after being rushed to the hospital when a blood vessel in her head burst. Despite surviving that ordeal, Hayley had to have 40% of her skull removed to relieve pressure. Both were dancers on the hit reality competition DWTS, with Derek currently serving as a judge alongside his sister, Julianne.
Derek Hough got emotional discussing wife Hayley’s journey

Derek and his wife have been through a roller coaster of emotions throughout their marriage. Speaking exclusively to People, Hayley calls their daughter a “rainbow after the storm.” Derek echoed his wife’s sentiments, calling Everly a “beautiful ray of light.”
The couple have experienced their share of trauma over the years, including a serious car crash in 2022. Hayley had to get four stitches in her forehead because of this. That, along with her 2023 brain bleeding and their miscarriage, left the pair reeling from shock and trauma.
Derek still gets choked up when he reflects on everything they’ve been through, especially his wife. The DWTS judge, however, has experienced his share of trauma as well. In October, he shared on social media that he’d once been hogtied and had a gun to his head when he was younger.
Recently, Derek attended the Golden Globes and was invited to an after-party. He says he declined to get home and see his daughter. When asked if she’d ever return to DWTS, Hayley said never say never. She did say that they would, of course, have Everly in dance classes at some point.
