Long before becoming famous through unfortunate circumstances, Erika Kirk had other ambitions. The widow of slain political activist Charlie Kirk has been accused of being desperate to have the spotlight, allegations some have put upon her since her husband’s assassination.
Following Charlie’s death in September, she’s taken over as CEO of Turning Point USA and been hounded by people everywhere she goes. She’s always been seen as someone who’s ambitious, just like her late husband. An old video of her is unlikely to change people’s opinions on that front, though you might not believe it’s actually her.

Before meeting Charlie and starting a family, Erika had ambitions to travel the world. Getting to do so with $1 million on the line is an added incentive to live such a dream. The mother of two is making headlines online after a YouTube video surfaced featuring her and her ex-boyfriend, JT Massey. The two were applying to be on The Amazing Race in 2014.
In the video, Erika can be heard telling JT, “Sex sells.” She added, “even though it’s against our religion.” Many have noted that she looks unrecognizable to the Erika Kirk we know today in the aftermath of Charlie’s shooting. Online, some have said that how she looks in that video starkly contrasts with her usual conservative image.
Several times over the months since Charlie’s death, people have called Erika’s actions performative. Her desire to compete on a hit reality competition for many is further proof of her quest for fame. That’s not the only thing she’s gotten backlash for, however. In November, many didn’t take kindly to Erika’s urging young women to have kids.
Erika and JT were not selected for the show, and the former began dating Charlie five years after that video. She and Charlie married in 2021.
