Becca Tilley knows that backlash on social media is common. Still, the former contestant on The Bachelor couldn’t help but share a heartfelt message on her Instagram after the fatal shooting of Alex Pretti by an ICE agent. The responses to her post came in quick and got pretty mean. She shared them as well, pointing out how some even sent hate her way that had nothing to do with what she posted.
Becca Tilley exposed some of the cruel DMs she received

Bachelor Nation fans may remember Becca Tilley from Seasons 19 and 20 of the famous dating reality show. Since vying for Chris Soules’ heart, Becca has moved on, been in other relationships, and even discussed her hopes of having an LGBTQ+ lead on The Bachelor one day.
Becca has never backed down from sharing her opinion, despite knowing that backlash could potentially follow. However, after the fatal shooting of ICU nurse Alex Pretti, she couldn’t help but take to social media to share a deeply personal message about where she stands and why she felt compelled to speak up.
In an initial post, Becca shared her conflict about posting at all. She spoke about how anxiety makes it hard to speak her mind. “I have a ton of anxiety and uncertainty because my brain works in a way where I always try to see both sides,” she admitted. However, she felt the situation in Minneapolis “goes beyond politics.”
She went on to share the anguish felt by many after Pretti’s shooting circulated online. Becca made it clear where her moral line is drawn, urging empathy and kindness over blind allegiance. “It’s okay to let your morality win over your loyalty to a political party or administration. There is no system more important than basic humanity.”
Naturally, hateful DMs followed. Becca shared some in her stories too, including one that attacked her appearance and personal life. The message said that “Botox damaged her brain.” The message mocked her social life and dismissed her opinions. Becca didn’t let it go. The DM sender’s church affiliation said to “Be kind always,” and Becca pointed out how ironic that was, considering her pointed attack.
Becca isn’t the only celebrity who’s shared their opinion on what’s been happening. Jimmy Kimmel also shared his thoughts on the Alex Pretti shooting. Matt Damon also protested ICE during his recent movie premiere.
The Bachelor is available to stream on Hulu.
