Nicki Minaj is not getting a whole lot of R-E-S-P-E-C-T these days. The rapper has not ingratiated herself with her online feuds with other celebrities. Her admiration for Donald Trump has made her an equally polarizing public figure.
She was called on stage yesterday by Trump during his account Summit. Donald was discussing that account, which aims to build long-term financial security by creating tax-advantaged investment accounts for Americans under 18. Her fondness for the President was evident, but it wasn’t the only thing that got people’s attention on Wednesday.
Nicki Minaj was “walking like Aretha” Franklin
In addition to her music, many know Nicki for her poses, style and how she moves. The latter is coming into focus with one user on X wondering why she is “walking like Aretha” as in Aretha Franklin.
The late singer, is known for songs like Respect. She was also dubbed the Queen of Soul, while many dub Nicki as the Queen of Rap. Royal nicknames are evidently not the only thing the two have in common. Aretha, like Nicki, had a signature, unique voice and a commanding stage presence.
Many online found it comical to see Nicki walking in that manner. Some suggest that she was trying to emulate Aretha. That likely won’t bother the Super Bass singer in the least. After Donald called her up on stage on Wednesday, Nicki said she was his #1 fan. She added that any hate he may get only motivates her that much more to support him. Nicki also promised to donate between $150,000 to $300,000 for the Trump accounts.
Whether she wants to or not, Nicki is used to taking heat and isn’t afraid to dish it out to others. In November, she was puzzled by the hate laid on her by SZA, with Nicki claiming she didn’t know the Kill Bill singer. Nicki also trashed journalist Don Lemon for live streaming a protest in Minneapolis in the wake of the ICE shooting, posting a homophobic slur about him online.
