Sarah Jessica Parker Slams Donald Trump’s Latest Flag Attack

Removing this historic item from a New York monument has not gone over well. Sarah Jessica Parker is among the celebrities pushing back against Donald Trump taking out pride flags from the Stonewall National Monument.

That monument stands at the Stonewall Inn in New York City and has a rich history of gay rights. The hotel was the site of riots in 1969, which launched the modern LGBT movement. That area was designated a national monument in 2016.

Donald Trump wanted the Pride flag removed from Stonewall

It’s a move we knew was coming, but it’s one some celebrities (and citizens) aren’t taking kindly to. In January, the Trump administration issued federal guidance to ban non-agency flags from being displayed within the national park system.

The Sex and the City alum, along with late-night talk-show host Andy Cohen, are among those speaking out on the matter. In an Instagram video, Sarah said, “We want our flag back.” She adds that removing it doesn’t mean you take away our history, the community or everyone who stands shoulder to shoulder. Andy, who is openly gay, shared Sarah’s story on his account.

Protestors on Tuesday were venting their frustrations at the historic site. They carried signs reading; You Can’t Erase Our History. The infamous riots in 1969 lasted six days, with NYPD cops raiding the Stonewall Inn, shutting down the gay bar and removing people violently. Sarah, like Andy, has been a longtime advocate for LGBT rights.

Many New York politicians aren’t taking Trump’s decision lying down. Manhattan Borough President Brad Hoylman-Sigal and other politicians in the city say they’ll reinstate the flag on Thursday. Sarah’s video featured a view of Christopher Park in the Big Apple, the monument and three pride flags in view.
