An Arizona state sheriff has held a press conference addressing accusations that his department has refused to allow the FBI to test key evidence in the search for Nancy Guthrie.
The mother of NBC host Savannah Guthrie was last seen by family members on January 31. Nancy was dropped off at home after a family dinner and failed to show up for a church service the following morning. After weeks of investigation, a lead suspect was named this week, after the discovery of Ring camera footage showing a masked man at Nancy’s front door in Tucson.
The investigation into Nancy Guthrie’s whereabouts continues

An exclusive report from Reuters shared today accused Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos of insisting on using a private lab in Florida instead of the FBI’s lab in Quantico. The purpose of this, Reuters reported, was to test a glove and DNA connected to the case.
In a new TV interview with local news station KVOA, Sheriff Nanos denied these allegations. He said that Reuter’s allegations were “not even close to the truth.” Additionally, Nanos claimed the FBI had actually agreed on the arrangement.
“The FBI just wanted to send the one or two they found by the crime scene, closest to it,” Nanos said. Moreover, he added that the glove was found around a “mile, mile and a half,” to the crime scene.
“I said ‘No, why do that?'” he continued. “Let’s just send them all to where all the DNA exist, all the profiles and the markers exist,” he recalled. “They agreed, ‘Makes sense.'”
Additionally, the Sheriff said the connection between the gloves and Nancy’s kidnapping is still unknown. “We don’t even know the true value of these gloves,” he concluded.
Also today, the Sheriff’s Department released a statement regarding potential evidence. Sheriff Nanos said that investigators recovered “several items of evidence, including gloves,” that were “submitted for analysis.” Previously, he confirmed that the blood found on the exterior porch of Nancy’s home matches her DNA. He added that both departments were operating on the belief that Nancy is still alive.
