Britney Spears Documentary Director Speaks After DUI Arrest

A documentary filmmaker and writer is weighing in on the latest Britney Spears situation. Erin Lee Carr knows the singer well, having directed a 2021 documentary about her titled Britney vs. Spears.

Last week, the pop star was arrested for alleged DUI, and fans and media have been all over her with mainly negative publicity. Erin’s movie about Britney delves into the Grammy award winner’s life over several years, along with her conservatorship.

Erin Lee Carr asks for “compassion” for the troubled singer

Britney’s arrest may not have reflected well on her, but Erin is urging people to show more empathy. On her Instagram page, Erin notes Britney’s unique talents, adding that she’s been throughout some harrowing experiences.

Among the many rough moments in the Toxic singer’s life was her conservatorship, which sparked massive protests from people seeking to free her from it. “Watching the way people are talking about Britney again feels painfully familiar,” writes Erin. According to Erin, people close to Britney reaped the financial rewards from her conservatorship, with many, including Erin, believing the singer was being controlled. The recent events involving Britney “do not validate what was done to her,” claims Erin.

While many people were against the previous conservatorship placed on Britney, one of those advocates has changed her tune. Last week, Jessica expressed regret, believing Britney should be placed under another conservatorship.

Previously, Britney had been under the conservatorship of her controversial father, Jamie. Erin’s film examines the power he had over his daughter’s financial, legal and business decisions. “Maybe the lesson is compassion,” noted Erin about everything Britney has been through, including this alleged DUI. Britney’s first husband, Jason Alexander, had similar sentiments about her last week, urging the public not to rush to judgment.

After 13 years under her father’s care, Britney’s conservatorship came to an end in November 2021.
