Season 4 of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives has dropped. The MomTok ladies are trying to pull together while still chasing their individual opportunities. And the marital tension between Mikayla Matthews and her husband, Jace Terry, reached a boiling point.
During Season 3 of SLOMW, viewers had the first hint that there were issues in the couple’s marriage. “I’ve been thinking a lot about my marriage,” Mikayla admitted during Season 3. “We’ve been struggling a lot behind closed doors.” Viewers saw the couple trying to work through their intimacy issues.

Mikayla bravely opened up about the sexual abuse that she experienced as a child. Unfortunately, this led to intimacy issues with Jace. “It’s so incredible that everyone’s getting these opportunities and going out and living their dreams, but my health has held me back from saying yes to a lot of opportunities,” Mikayla revealed in a Season 4 confessional. And that includes working on her marriage.
“Because it’s hard to focus on anything else and be motivated to fix anything else while I’m in this state,” Mikayla told co-star Whitney Leavitt of her health struggles, which need to be her “top priority.” Meanwhile, Jace felt that if they were to separate, and Mikayla didn’t want to work on these issues in therapy, then that would be the breaking point for him.
Later, Mikayla shared in another confessional that the couple decided to separate. “I feel it’s hard on me because again, my nervous system is already in fight or flight, and I’m already maxed out,” Mikayla told Jace. “My bucket is full.” For Mikayla, healing is the way to ultimately keep her family together.
