Cancelled Bachelorette Premiere Replacement Revealed

Following another round of domestic abuse allegations against Taylor Frankie Paul, her season as The Bachelorette is now in the trash. This is a huge loss for ABC, but the show must go on, just with a different show, that is. So, which show will this be? Well, here’s the network’s answer.

An American Idol rerun will replace Taylor Frankie Paul’s Bachelorette season

Season 22 of The Bachelorette was all set and ready to premiere this Sunday night, during the 8:00 pm – 10:00 pm time-slot on ABC. However, abuse allegations are serious. Broadcasting this season would have damaged the network’s reputation, so they had no choice but to cancel everything and pivot.

And what they decided on was American Idol. To start, a rerun of last Monday’s episode of American Idol, which featured Part 1 of the Top 20 contestants this season, will now air this Sunday. From there, the new episode of American Idol, featuring Part 2 of the Top 20 contestants, will air as planned on Monday, March 23. ABC has not yet announced any additional plans for this time slot, likely because Season 22 of The Bachelorette was only canceled yesterday.

However, the door is now open for American Idol to air two nights a week, should the network find it fitting. Making things even easier, the Live Shows start taping during the week of March 30. Since they are live, these episodes are pretty easy to stretch as needed to help fill in the extra space.

Originally, Sunday night was the home base for American Idol on ABC. So, if you think about it, this replacement does make sense.

American Idol will now air this Sunday at 8/7c on ABC. It streams the next day on Hulu and Disney+.
